Mission Statement: Photographe Skimtastique
Photographe Skimtastique has brought together some of the finest pieces of art that represent the women of skimboarding. It is an eclectic collection that represent both inland and ocean skimboarding, along with its beautiful participants. These women are seeking major sponsorship for their professional tour.
Ocean Skimboarding is a fast paced water sport that demands its athletes to meet onshore breaking waves as they ride them back onto the sand. These athletes constantly run up and down the beach to connect with these waves, performing maneuvers that are similar to skateboarding and surfing. The spectator is rewarded by either a successful ride or an incredibly painful wipeout.
As with any ocean sport, the participants that take skimboarding seriously are in top physical condition, complemented by incredible core strength and fantastic endurance. The company SkimChicks exists to bring these women together under one banner and combined their physical prowess with the artistic talents of Lanakila Kelliher and photographer Monique Feil. Together, their vision has produced stunning images of these beautiful female athletes.
The end goal for these women is to gain sponsorship that would support their professional tour. More information can be found at www.skimchicks.com
Photographe Skimtastique has enriched their art show with additional works from Shauna Marincik and Sheila Jacobs.
Shauna Marincik has been photographing the SkimChicks as they have been filming their first DVD, Western Skimagery, slated for distribution later this year. Shauna has painstakingly been there through press interviews, events, contests, and the countless days of production. Her work has captured the women through their struggle to organize and put their dreams of professionalism into action.
Sheila Jacobs is the mother of Jen Jacobs, an accomplished skimboarder at both flatland and ocean events. Sheila has taken her daughter’s passion for the sport and transformed it into works of art depicted in esoteric oil paintings. Sheila is an accomplished artist having more than twenty years of experience at her craft. She has had countless showings, exhibits, and has received top awards from juried shows. Sheila’s art includes realism, abstractions, water colors, acrylics, and sculptures and ceramics, of which her favorite medium is painting with oils.
